Own your DAM data: Insights and New Mediagraph Features
As 2024 draws to a close, it’s the perfect time to reflect on your DAM strategy and begin planning for 2025. We're excited to share some key insights on data portability from Peter Krogh, Chief Product Officer, as well as some some exciting new Mediagraph features. These new features, as well as some that are coming soon, are all aimed at putting you in full control of your digital assets.
Do you own your DAM data?
Peter Krogh, Chief Product Officer at Mediagraph, has been shaping DAM best practices for two decades. A key principle he first outlined in The DAM Book (2004) has become increasingly relevant today:
“Get a good prenup.”
When working with any DAM vendor, it’s essential to ensure your data is not locked in to any particular application. Think of it like a "prenuptial agreement" for your digital assets: an agreement that guarantees you can take your data with you, if and when it’s time to leave.
In Peter’s recent article, Do You Own Your DAM Data?, published by DAM News, he delves into this topic and shares actionable tips on ensuring your data remains fully accessible and under your control. Visit DAM News to read more.
New Features
We’re always working hard to improve Mediagraph, and we're thrilled to share a range of new features designed to streamline your workflows and give you more control over your digital assets:

- Custom Link in the Help Menu: Allow your organization to access resources of your choice by adding a custom link to your Mediagraph account's help menu.
We’ve also made several smaller but impactful updates to improve your experience:
- Filename Copier: Quickly copy asset filenames from the image info overlay.
- Download Counter: A new download counter in the Quick Info panel allows you to track asset usage at a glance.
- Date Picker for Custom Metadata: You can now add a date picker to a Custom Metadata field, adding even greater flexibility to this feature.
- Updates for Group Taggers: Improving our promise of the best Group Management in the business, Custom Metadata fields are now visible in the Edit Metadata menu and Action menu for Group Taggers, along with other additions in the Asset Detail view.
- Credit Line in Custom Quick Info: The option to display the iPTC Credit Line field in the custom Quick Info panel lets you put the most important metadata front and center for your stakeholders.
What’s Next for 2025?
Among many other exciting updates, we’re excited to share that in early 2025, Mediagraph will be launching an open-source tool to further enhance data portability. These tools will make it even easier to manage your digital assets across platforms and ensure your DAM strategy is future-proof.
